We are excited to announce the completion of our freshly-designed 16 foot banners at the Centennial Concert Hall. Newly launched (as of Monday), the banners show off the 4 main entertainment draws the Concert Hall provides; The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, The Manitoba Opera, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet and of course the many concerts the center brings. The banners mark the completion of the first phase of brand signage. We are currently continuing the execute the new brand as we develop the new website, set to launch early in the New Year. Once again, stay tuned.

In a new installment here at Neuhaus called “Typographic Tuesdays”, at least until we think of a better name, we’ll be posting quotes uttered around the office. Here’s my personal favourite. (Bonus points if you can guess who said what to whom.)

If you are a lover of fun and good times, this post is definitely for you. The highly-anticipated and much-talked-about tickets for Tyler + Jessie’s Riel Good Wedding Social are now on sale. This social promises to be the event of the year and boasts some of Winnipeg’s best-ever silent auction prizes. You’d be silly not to snatch up a few tickets before they’re sold out.

For the nerds in all of us; The Wand Company has released a remote control wand. Yes, that’s right, you can now magically control your TV with a flick (or swoosh) of the wrist. Once purchased, your wand will arrive to you in a (faux) dragon hide box for you to display proudly on your coffee table/mantle/stack of Harry Potter books. Awesome!

It’s always awe-inspiring when you find a piece of art that is so simple but completely complicated at the same time. Jen Stark is a young artist who’s career began when she attended an art program in France and had a limited amount of money to buy art supplies. She saw potential with a stack of brightly coloured construction paper and an exacto knife, and the rest is history. Hear more about her story here and see more of her sculptures on her website.

I FFFFound these posters earlier today, and I must say, I wish they were mine. I’m a huge fan of absolute simplicity, and these posters embody simplicity. While I think some of the posters work better than others, the overall execution and colour selection are excellent. Check out the collection at Exergian.

Although I was unfamiliar with Don Shank’s art, I immediately sat up when I realized he was responsible for the design of Carl Fredericksen’s house from the movie UP! I love the attention to detail in the sketches and thoughts he provides, giving us a look at his mind in action. Bookmark his blog if you like sweet, sweet illustration.

This is a fascinating project. Photographer Kevin Bauman, in his own words, began this project some 15 years ago. Chronicling the decline of Detroit, and starting in his own neighborhood, his project morphed from a creative outlet to a full blown photo-documentary. Although he states 100 houses initially seemed like a lot, there are some 12,000 abandoned houses in Detroit. I’ll admit, it’s a morbid fascination I have with what is essentially an incredibly sad situation, however it’s hard to argue the artistic merit of these photographs.
