I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement when I was sent a link to Tom Robinson Photography. Tom is an English photographer who has done extensive traveling and shot in many beautiful locales across the world. It’s his Feet First exhibition that really got my traveling juices flowing however, and I look forward to one day soon visiting many of the amazing places featured in his photographs.
This video combines two of my favourite things: namely Mad Men and Sesame Street. Granted, one I haven’t watched in 20 years, I still have fond memories. On Monday night, shortly after watching the (outstanding) Season 3 finale of Mad Men I flipped to The National on CBC. Here I found a news story celebrating the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street. I laughed, I cried, I went to sleep. In a rather serendipitous turn of events the very next day I came across this funny little parody in a segment I like to call; Life Imitating Art Imitating Life.
Love this billboard design by the team at Blue River. It’s great to see work that isn’t afraid to push the envelope and doesn’t feel the need to fall within the rules.
I find myself gravitating more and more towards artwork such as that produced by Simon Page, and it is starting to influence my own work. I am currently enjoying experimenting with liberal use of colour and simplistic shapes with complex arrangements. If you find yourself gravitating in the same direction, check out his blog for more inspirational graphic design.
I know I’ve commented on this before, but I am incredibly excited for the new Wes Anderson animated feature, Fantastic Mr. Fox. There has been some controversy surrounding the film (reported feuds between the head animator and the director leaked a few weeks back), but with favourable reviews pouring in and a track record of great films behind him, I think Fantastic will be one of Mr. Anderson’s finest. Head to Apple to see another making-of-featurette to tide you over until the weekend.
Wall Art that is. We’ve been steadily chipping away at getting our artwork up on the walls. It’s been many weeks, but if you knew how long it took us to get paint on the walls (hint: almost a decade) the rate of progress in comparison has been off the charts! For my own personal piece, I decided it was high time I cozied up with goache and my ruling pen again. Several hours of painting and ruling later, I was happy with the outcome, and even happier I’m not still in first year Graphic Design. Check it out below, and keep your eyes peeled for more artwork in the coming week.
If you haven’t seen Disney/Pixar’s UP yet, please do. To promote my admiration of this film, I thought I’d post a couple retro posters I chanced upon on while cruising the world wide web.
Wonderwall Inc. is an interior design firm established by Masamichi Katayama. They have a diverse portfolio including retail spaces, restaurants and bars. Their website functionality is completely new to my eyes, and their smooth functionality is more than impressive. Take a test drive and see for yourself.
This person is absolutely astounding. Diagnosed as a young child as autistic, Stephen has since formed the ability to illustrate detailed cityscapes. What makes this particular talent even more impressive is that he does so from memory, having only observed them briefly. If you want to be truly inspired, please head over to his website and view his story.
