If we could all get a fraction of the enjoyment out of life as this guy gets out of rainbows, the world would be a better place. Or at least a more drug induced, hazy, make love, not war kind of place.

Full Steam Ahead
The Steamroller Festival is a free printmaking event on Saturday, June 26th where Martha Street Studio hires a paving machine to drive over giant, inked linocuts (carved by their members and anyone else who wants to join in) pressing them into oversized paper. There will also be tools and linoleum on hand for people to carve up on the day of the event. And they’ve also got free linocutting workshops on offer at the Studio every week leading up to the Steamroller Festival, on Wednesdays from 6–9pm (June 2, 9, 16 & 23) all taught by Jeanette Johns. In addition, there are sheets of lino at Martha Street Studio (also completely free and sized at 32″ x 39″) for anyone to pick up on the condition that they print on June 26th.
Our Signature Style
Signature Nominations came out this week and Neuhaus Design is leading the pack with 5 nominations. Well, leading the pack may be a bit strong. Let’s say we’re leading the 65th percentile of the pack. Categories for which we were nominated include Best Brochure, Best Outdoor Series, Best Specialty Advertising, Best Self-Promotion and Best Re-brand. Although we have posted all of these worthy contenders before, we felt they were worth posting a second time.
Disneyland? Boo! Hoth? Yay!
Looking for something different to do on your summer holidays? How about a quick jaunt to the Degobah System or a nice relaxing visit to Tatooine? Apparently tourism to these areas has been suffering since Attack of the Clones so Justin Van Genderen designed a few tourism posters to try to bolster interest and tacky souvenir sales for these hurting economies.
Andrew Kim, You Complete Me
OK, so hats off to Andrew Kim. You’d think that looking at this very simple solution to a fairly obvious problem, Andrew would be an established industrial/package designer. Not so much. This is, in Andrew’s own words, “My midterm project for my semester 2, freshman product design studio II class at CCS.” Does it solve all the world’s ills? Hell no. But is this a step in the right f****** direction. Oh sorry, did I mention this dude is 18? No? Well, he is. This entry isn’t so much about the fact that this is a great idea (which I am going to assume is original). It’s more about the fact that this 18 year old student has come up with a simple, elegant, totally doable solution to a design and environmental problem and has been able to communicate it impressively and effectively. Take note, other students, this is how it’s done.
Meet Martha
You don’t know Martha? Well, Spring is a great time to introduce yourself. Martha Street Studio is starting its Spring edumacation program. Learn how to silk screen your own t-shirts, letterpress your own wedding invites or just intaglio the crap out of something. If you’re confused about that last one, give them a call and sign up for one of their intaglio classes. It’ll be the best thing you ever did (I think).
A Site to Sing About
Why should we sing about this site, you ask? Well, obvious pun aside, this site was built using WordPress, a little jquery and some good old fashion HTML in order to make a quick, easy to navigate and content rich experience for its audience. The content management system in this site allows our clients at the Centennial Concert Hall to edit almost every aspect of the site in amazingly easy fashion. While it may look clean and simple on the outside, it is a complete monster on the inside. So, if you’re looking for something to do in the Cultural Capital of Canada (that’s Winnipeg, by the way) make sure you check centennialconcerthall.com for the most up to date entertainment information.
Logorama
Remember when you were 7 and you’d grab a big bowl of cereal and plop down in front of your favourite cartoon on Saturday morning? No logos, no product placement… just clean innocent childlike hilarity? Well, this animated film is pretty much the antithesis of that. Fun, violent, and amazingly creative, it speaks for itself. This Academy Award winning film was directed by the French animation collective H5, François Alaux, Hervé de Crécy + Ludovic Houplain. Enjoy!

Vintage Staff
Have you ever wondered what you might look like as a black guy (assuming you’re not already black), a soldier or someone who most people would like to punch in the face just because you looked so “punch-in-the-face-able”? Well, wonder no more. Now with iphone’ stellar Oldbooth app, you too can transport yourself back to days of yore, or even yesteryear. Back when people lived without colour and mirrors, they had to rely on friends to tell them they looked like complete doofuses (and yes, that is a word). It’s ironic that two of my favourite iphone apps of late are ones that take us back to days before iphones. (in this picture, Kerri as “black dude #1″, Tyler as “angry soldier” and Callum as “that guy I’m going to punch in the face just for looking so stupid.”)
