On the topic of great illustrators, here is another in Matthew-Lyons. Again, this link has been kicking around in pen form in one incarnation or another for some time, but it is completely worth saving.

A myriad of topics and artists to blog about have been piling up on my patented monitor-of-sticky-notes for a few weeks now. It seems as though we’ve been just busy enough that I can’t quite put thoughts to paper (or in this case, screen). I can’t remember where I came across Brent Couchman’s illustrations, but he has fantastic work. I love his vintage colour palettes, and his site is perfectly fluid. It’s another great example of simplicity in design.

I need it, I want it, I have to have it! There is no doubt that Jessica Hische has created some beautiful work, but her limited edition Letterpress Drop Cap print might be my favourite so far. If I wasn’t saving every spare penny for my friend’s wedding in Hawaii, I would be ordering her limited edition print this second. This has definitely made my wish list and I’m crossing my fingers that there will still be one left for me to buy in April. (Photos courtesy of Jessica’s website.)

Although I was unfamiliar with Don Shank’s art, I immediately sat up when I realized he was responsible for the design of Carl Fredericksen’s house from the movie UP! I love the attention to detail in the sketches and thoughts he provides, giving us a look at his mind in action. Bookmark his blog if you like sweet, sweet illustration.

Lab Partners is a design and illustration team consisting of partners Ryan Meis and Sarah Labieniec. Pictured here are prints for the show Hunt & Gather shown at Outre Gallery in Melbourne and Sydney. Check out their blog for more exceptional work.

While this designer only learned of Charley Harper a couple of years ago (by purchasing his wonderful ABC’s book), his work has been adored by many for decades. He is widely renown as a Modernist responsible for geometrically simple wildlife imagery, and his illustrations concentrated on colour, form and balance rather than the finer details. Now you too can share in the wonderfully simple art he produced by visiting Purlbee and purchasing the needlepoint collection from Charley Harper.
